The series labelled abstract is a little bit odd because in fact most painting is abstract. Nothing realistic comes off the end of a paint brush. I characterise it by using marks that do not have any direct reference to images of the world around us. They come from the reaction of one mark to another, they are ordered but only in connection with each other. They may use chance, as in accidental splashes and marks. They often originate from the subconscious.
That's not how it started. 2021, oil on canvas, 60cm x 60cm
