The thing that holds these paintings together is they all tend to be unreal looking, in a sense otherworldly, surrealistic, the visions of what could be. They are beginning to look like things in space, science fiction.
The effect is not realised until the painting is finished. There are connotations to them ie a fish in a bubble of water, funny concept! It is in the water, but it isn’t in the water. Things that appear to be floating, like eggs, what are they? Are they going to become something? Something’s laid the egg? There’s an ongoing sort of strange thought process involved trying to use the textures and colours to emphasise the strangeness of it all.
